Hey Indians fans!! This one’s for you! Joe Boyd is addicted to baseball and particularly the Cleveland Indians. He is willing to do whatever it takes to bring his team to victory and win the American League Pennant against the team we all love to hate – those Damn Yankees! To become an all-star player, he is willing to sell his soul. Although there is an escape clause, the devil “Mr. Applegate” is determined to keep Joe from returning to his normal life. The humorous and laugh-out-loud antics of the devil will have you in baseball stitches! His efforts are highlighted by the seductress Lola. “Whatever Lola Wants (Lola Gets),” “Those Were the Good Old Days,” and “Shoeless Joe” are entertaining additions to the score and will have you rooting for more! INDIANS ARE VICTORIOUS…INDIANS WIN THE 2008 PENNANT!!!

DAMN YANKEES may be rated as PG 13 due to the content dealing with selling ones’ soul to the devil and mild sexual innuendoes involving Lola’s attempted seduction. DAMN YANKEES leans more towards adult themes of a man’s love for his wife and the humorous antics of the devil to avoid loosing the soul he believes he has gained.

2007 Season

Beehive
January 10 - February 24, 2007

Let’s ROCK the Carousel house again, with BEEHIVE! You fell in love with Pat McRoberts in BUDDY; now fall in love with these six girls as they turn back the clock to the 1960s and bring back to the stage, a show with even more energy than the concert-style experience of The BUDDY HOLLY Story. The sixties stood as a decade of change and women ruled the Billboard charts. Words alone cannot describe this high energy retrospective of the 60s. Stories are told through these #1 hits of the era. Come reminisce and have a fun night out with your date, daughter or with the girls!
Take a journey through the music, which personalized the laughter, tears and parties of that era. Begin - 1960 when “The Name Game” had every teen belting out “Banana Fanna Fo...,” continue with “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “One Fine Day” and “It’s My Party.” 1964 – Four guys from England with those funny looking haircuts stepped off the plane and America changed forever! Incoming was the British Invasion, with divas such as Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield. Who could forget “Downtown,” “Don’t Sleep in the Subway,” You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” and “Wishin’ and Hopin’?” Now make way for the girl rockers who ruled the airwaves – Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin turned music on its ear “Proud Mary,” “A Natural Woman” and “Piece of My Heart” were immortalized in music history. BEEHIVE, the 60s musical will have you coming back a second and third time!

37 hit songs aide in the journey and are presented chronologically throughout the decade. The sounds of the 60s are sure to bring you to your feet and get you dancing in the Carousel aisle ways once again! Director and Choreographer Donna Drake is no stranger to the Carousel or to shows that rock. She first brought audiences to their feet during SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ and she is prepared to get the joint rockin’ again!

A LIVE 6-piece band will heat things up on stage as the first act develops the story of six women facing their independence while the second act leaves the story and rocks with the music that inspired them and now their daughters and granddaughters.

You will not want to miss Benai Boyd, LaDonna Burns, Danielle Garner, Christine Mild, Val Moranto and Alena Watters recall the wonderment that has kept us dancing for 4 decades! Collectively their credits include BILOXI BLUES, RENT, SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ, Carousel’s CATS (Christine mesmerized audiences in the role of Grizabella), TOMMY and NEWSICAL and many more credits to their extensive careers!

Thoroughly Modern Millie

February 28- April 28

What made the twenties roar was dance! It wasn’t just a fad... it was a craze! People would literally dance until they dropped. Thoroughly Modern Millie has dancing on the mind, reminiscent of the dance marathons; Tap, the Charleston, Fox-trot and the Shimmy will take center stage! Laugh at the madcap, root for the love and enjoy the entertainment filled evening.

Millie Dillmount is determined to live a life of luxury by marrying wealthy. The spirited young gal leaves her small town of Salina, Kansas and heads to the bustling metropolis of New York City. Shedding her Sunday best for the city look, that of the defiant moderns (higher hemlines, hats and a new way of thinking), Millie enters into the city with enthusiasm... only to get mugged!

To her rescue is the witty Jimmy Smith, who advises her to return home. Millie will not admit to defeat and takes up residence at the Hotel Priscilla, owned by the mysterious and conniving Mrs. Meers (who pretends she’s Oriental). The hotel is a front for her real business, attempting to sell young single hopefuls into white slavery. Mrs. Meers counts on her unreliable and humorous Oriental henchmen (saving to bring their mama over from Hong Kong) to carry out the task, she does not count on them to fall in love. Miss Dorothy is her next dupe and the gleam in Ching Ho’s eye, but timing is everything and as hilarious ploy after hilarious ploy proves, timing is not on her side. Millie and Miss Dorothy, from opposite sides of the tracks, bond and quickly become steadfast friends.

Millie heads out to seek the man of her million dollar dreams. Her objective is to receive a job as a stenographer and marry the boss. A delighted Millie is hired by Trevor Graydon III to work for the Sincere Trust Insurance Company. Ready to paint the town red, she gathers the Priscilla girls and celebrates.

With fate at hand, Millie runs into jobless Jimmy Smith at the speakeasy and they share a dance. Jimmy becomes smitten, but does not have the financial means to fulfill Millie’s life’s ambition... but he does have the makings of love. Jimmy is ready to fight for Millie’s affection and although she resists at first, can she fight the real kind of love? Will her independent way of thinking get in the way of what she thinks is her original goal? Jimmy loves Millie, Ching Ho loves Miss Dorothy, Miss Dorothy loves Trevor Graydon III... How will the love triangles and subplots play out? Are they really who they say they are?

Thoroughly Modern Millie dances through the story of the moderns during the Roaring Twenties. Director/Choreographer Marc Robin returns for a story of hope, transition and love. Millie is the recipient of six 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Some adult situations. May not be suitable for children under 13.

West Side Story
May 2 - June 30, 2007

The “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks have rumbled in theatres for 50 years. This May through June, Carousel will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story as its 2007 Signature Show. (Fifty years of performances on stages across the country; fifty years of a timeless love story, inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.)

As modern today as when it first debuted on Broadway in 1957, West Side Story tells the ground-breaking story of societal woes, forbidden love and gang issues on the streets of America. Experience the emotional conflict of Tony, the former leader of the Jets, torn between his friends and the woman he falls in love with, Maria, the sister of the rival Sharks’ leader. Feel the strength of Maria as she chooses forbidden love over family honor.

Tony left the Jets to make something of his life. The increasing tension between the two rival gangs, leads Riff, current leader of the Jets, to ask for Tony’s help one last time. He asks him to attend the neighborhood dance where his plan for the Sharks will be put into motion. Tony hesitantly agrees.

Maria, in the bridal shop where she works, talks with her friend, co-worker and brother’s girlfriend, Anita. As the rival gang members arrive to the dance, a challenge “Mambo” takes place and Tony and Maria see each other for the first time and two cultural worlds collide, heightening the already high tension between the rivals.

A War Council is scheduled to discuss the rules of the rumble. Tony, trying to stop the violence and pending fight, is taunted by the opposing gang. The fight is inevitable and takes place under the highway bridge. A fight that was supposed to be best man vs. best man turns into a knife fight leaving one of each of the gang members for dead. Tony is behind the slaying of Bernardo who is the Sharks gang leader and Maria’s brother.

Forgiveness and revenge pursue and fate runs its course. Love endures but with tragic results. Carousel will present this production with homage as it gives audiences its 2007 Environmental Show. The theatrical trailer for the film stated “Unlike other classics, West Side Story grows younger;” it is a story that transcends generations, whether you remember the Broadway or Movie premier or it is your first time, you will be just as entertained and wanting to bring your friends back again and again!

Special staging areas will be constructed in the audience, including the infamous and pull-at-your-heart fire escape scene between Tony and Maria. Chain link fences will adorn the walls to the side of the stage to bring you onto the basketball court where it all begins. You will never again have the opportunity to experience West Side Story as with this production at the Carousel.

Pump Boys and Dinettes
August 29 - October 27, 2007

Pump Boys and Dinettes, starring Pat McRoberts, serves up the feel-good music of Americana.  Good times are ahead on "Highway 57" as each unique and original character reveals their soul - jamming to their own music makers including the electric and acoustic guitar, piano, bass, fiddle, drums and more; a sound reminiscent of John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen and the Dixie Chicks.  The four guys at the station and the two gals at the dinette perform a musical tribute to living in and working in America.  Spanning across the genres of rock and folk, the score includes "Highway 57," "The Best Men," "Be Good or Be Gone" and "The Night Dolly Parton Was Almost Mine."  Pump Boys and Dinettes is the longest running show in Chicago theatre history, with successful runs on both Broadway (Princess Theatre during the 1982-1983 Season) London's West End (1983-1984).

Audiences will fondly remember Pat McRoberts from the Buddy Holly Story in Carousel's summer 2006 production.  McRoberts is a Canton native and Perry High graduate.  he starred as Chris in Miss Saigon on Broadway and in Cleveland, Los Angeles, Chicago, Vancouver, Denver and Detroit.  As Buddy he has starred in the National Tour and Regionally.  In the role of Jim in Pump Boys and Dinettes he will play acoustic and electric guitar.

White Christmas
October 31 - January 5, 2008

It’s going to be a White Christmas this year! Elegant, stylish and reminiscent of a time when musicals were created out of theatrical spun sugar, this show brings you vividly into post World War II with its look, style and attitude of post-war optimism. WHITE CHRISTMAS tells the story of a song and dance team, Wallace and Davis, who finish their Army stint in ’44 and head back to civilian life to become big stars. Romance ensues as the boys follow two ladies to a nearly bankrupt New England ski lodge. Feisty romance ignites several times over when the two couples scramble to save the lodge. Accompanying the relationship harmonies are many charming and endearing song and dance numbers including “Blue Skies,” “Happy Holidays,” “Snow” and, of course, “White Christmas.” The movie was a hit, but seeing the magic live on the Carousel stage will be an even bigger treat! WHITE CHRISTMAS is the perfect way to enjoy the holiday season.

It all backfires when the brothers, in their enthusiasm, kidnap six women from a neighboring town to be their brides. Bursting with the rambunctious energy of the original Oscar-winning film plus a brilliant score with dancing galore ... SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS is spirited, romantic and harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical. Audiences will be thrilled with a shotgun wedding, barn-raising choreography and a great, big happy ending, seven times over! A truly “feel good” time for all.

Forever ingrained in our musical minds is the smiling, bespectacled picture of this groundbreaking American idol whose spirit will forever rock on… enjoy the timeless feel-good music that shaped a nation, live on stage with BUDDY: The Buddy Holly Story … you can't help but tap, snap and sing along! The Carousel will be rockin' and you'll be swayin' in the aisles for this one!

Urinetown
September 6 - November 4, 2006

This three-time Tony Award-winning musical, fresh off of Broadway, is a cleverly written tale of corrupt big business and ironically, good intentions gone awry. A 20-year drought causes a terrible water shortage, leading to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens are forced to use public amenities, regulated by a large monopolizing corporation, which profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Bobby, an idealistic dreamer from the wrong side of the tracks, and Hope, the CEO's naïve daughter, want to save the suffering public, but is their love enough to stop the undeniable fate of the town? This musical is filled with wickedly modern wit, satire and tongue-and-cheek musical numbers that will have you snickering all the way home. URINETOWN, the show where everybody has to go! Do not let the name fool you; there is nothing offensive in this town, just the pleasing parodies.

Singin' in the Rain
November 8, 2006 - January 6, 2007

A SPLASH OF FUN FOR THE HOLIDAYS!
Rain and Holiday spirit will pour at the Carousel in one of the greatest musicals of all time! SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, which has spanned generations, is the hottest ticket for November and December in Ohio. Director Marc Robin who has directed the crowd favorites, CATS, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and SWING! will be at it again, with no exceptions. Robin will stage this production to emulate the film version rather than the 1985 Broadway rendition. Look forward to an exciting “Beautiful Girls” number and a bright and energetic “Broadway Melody.” “Broadway Melody” will showcase the dance, including tap which is prevalent throughout the show.

Are you brave enough for the “Rain Zone?” If you can handle it, ask for the front rows of ‘A’ ‘B’ or ‘C’. During the reminiscent “Singin’ in the Rain” number guests in these sections will be asked to put on their ponchos (provided by the Carousel), because they may get wet! What a great way to experience the thrill of this production!

In the story that takes place in 1927, the historical transition between silent film and talkies, silent film stars, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont (rumored to be engaged in the tabloids), are about to produce their next big picture together, when plans suddenly change. Talkies are all the range and “The Dueling Cavalier” will be disastrous unless they can pull off many changes. Ms. Lamont’s voice is high-pitched and does not match her beauty. In fact she is the role model for the term “dumb blond.” Don Lockwood can dance, really dance, and so can his buddy, Cosmo. Don is attracted to Kathy Selden, a terrific singer and dancer in the shadow of Lina. Can Don think of a way to turn disaster into success and still find true love?

Now doesn’t this scream at you to grab your spouse, friend, or family to come to the Carousel to celebrate the holidays in a fun, splashing and exciting manner? Order your tickets now!
